This position will provide operation, maintenance, and repair services for the Dumbarton Oaks building systems. These services include but are not limited to preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance, daily mechanical room inspection and troubleshooting and providing corrective solutions to complex HVAC system failures. The successful candidate must demonstrate the knowledge and skills at professional and/or trade person's level to perform operating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems as well as commercial appliances, book conveyance system, fire protection equipment, basic carpentry, and locksmith work. The incumbent will also be required to maintain inventory control, order supplies, solicit proposals for parts and services; assign, review and supervise contractors' work to assure contract work compliance as assigned. This position is considered essential and is required to report to duty when scheduled or as needed even when the institution is otherwise closed due to weather or another emergency. Workdays and hours are subject to change to meet the needs of Dumbarton Oaks.
The incumbent will work under the general supervision of Chief Engineer and will work independently on operating, troubleshooting and diagnosing HVAC equipment to maintain optimal IAQ conditions for the mission critical areas, such as Museum and Library spaces.
Performs a variety of building maintenance tasks. Completes projects requiring light carpentry, carpentry repair, minor building repairs and assists with the upkeep of the buildings. Works with in-house technicians and carpentry contractors as a team when assigned.
Provides preventative and planned maintenance duties in all areas of the buildings and grounds including electrical, HVAC, plumbing and other systems as directed.
Must be able to use CMMS system utilized for routine maintenance, repair activities as well as PM work. Must be familiar with BAS system and have the ability to operate the HVAC system through Siemens Apogee.
Maintains excellent communication practices with supervisor and all others as designated during performance of duties. Maintain proper documentation practices for all assigned tasks, emerging issues, new discoveries (detrimental or beneficial), and work related discussions.

Must document at least 5 years of experience in the HVAC work, buildings and/or physical plants. High School diploma or equivalency required (equivalency must be authenticated by one of the recognized evaluation services in USA, such as, AACRAO, ACE, NACES, etc.)
Good communication and documentation practices by using basic computer skills and office software such as Outlook email, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, CMMS, etc. is essential. Must be able to speak, write and read in English. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret operating manuals, blueprints and diagrams related with this position. Must be able to work independently and take initiative when necessary as well as be capable of working as a member of a team.
Must be familiar with OSHA regulations concerning all relative safety issues for this position and comply with all standard safety codes and practices, and perform work in accordance with recognized trade standards. Previous experience in higher education institution or non-profit is preferred. Graduate of a duly recognized school of technology, a graduate of an approved engineer apprentice training program, or an AA or higher degree in engineering studies is highly desirable. Previous experience with Siemens Apogee BAS controls is highly preferred.
