Position Summary
The Mechanic (Systems/Controls) maintains, troubleshoots, and tests of the campus fire alarm systems and provides support for the ancillary systems monitored by the fire alarm panels such as elevator recall, and fire suppression. This position is a member of the collective bargaining unit, Local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Proactively identify, communicate, and address fire alarm deficiencies and failures.
- Diagnose fire systems failures using a variety of diagnostic tools including, but not limited to, multi-meter, computer-based fire alarm software, electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Assist in annual testing of fire alarm system including, but not limited to, smoke and heat detectors, door hold opens, smoke exhaust systems, etc.
- Respond to work order requests in a timely, efficient, competent, and friendly manner.
- Maintain records such as test results per department policy.
- Utilize material, supplies, tools, and other University assets in a safe, and responsible manner.
- Willingness to work in multi-craft positions/situations.

Preferred Qualifications
- NICET I, II, or III certification.
- Working knowledge of low voltage control systems.
- Experience with Johnson Controls Simplex fire alarm systems.
- Experience in testing fire alarm systems.
- Technical school training in maintenance related courses strongly preferred.
- Willingness to work overtime.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively/appropriately with members of the campus community and other employees within Facilities.
- Understands the importance of satisfying the needs of the campus community (customer oriented) and providing value to the University.
- Ability to read and understand blue prints.
- Capable of doing extensive walking, climbing stairs/ladders, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. and other similar physical activity.
- Must be willing to provide oneâ™s own hand tools.
- Must have a State of Missouri Class E or above driverâ™s license or the equivalent from another state prior to employment.
- Excellent attendance record.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain a Missouri Class E Driverâ™s License by the end of the Probationary period and cannot drive University owned vehicles until Class E Driverâ™s License is obtained.
- Must have successfully completed a recognized craft apprenticeship program, a technical school training program (such as a Ranken Technical College two-year certification program) or other equivalent training program.
- Minimum of five yearsâ™ experience working in a particular craft or multi-craft position.
- Candidate must have completed a recognized craft apprenticeship program, technical school training program, or equivalent training program in the electrical, electronics, or electronic controls field.
- Working knowledge of 120 V AC systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft based software (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Salary Range
$33.09 - $33.09 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
