Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 945 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking an experienced Director of Facilities to oversee facilities operations, manage facilities budgets, direct routine maintenance, respond to emergencies, manage risk, manage contractors and conduct site inspections. The Director will also establish and manage the ongoing design, planning, construction and maintenance of all buildings and equipment. The Director of Facilities will recommend, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that comply with regional, state, and federal laws and regulations that are consistent with sound business practices. The Director of Facilities oversees the Assistant Director of Facilities and manages both the Maintenance and Security Departments.
Oversee the facilities operation of the entire school and its ancillary programs
Manage maintenance and cleaning programs and negotiate vendor contracts
Supervise, evaluate, and provide leadership for maintenance and security staff
Develop maintenance and security staffing plans while controlling overtime costs
Coordinate custodial and maintenance schedules with the school’s master calendar
Assist the CFO in the preparation of an annual budget for the plant
Provide a monthly variance report on the plant budget
Create and oversee an on-going equipment replacement program and facilities renovation budget (PPRRSM)
Develop, maintain, and report all required environmental, health and maintenance standards and train staff to ensure compliance with all regional, state and federal regulations and laws
Administer risk management for the school and maintain appropriate levels of insurance
Arrange bids and develop specifications for all outside contractual work
Monitor the work of all outside contractors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and budgetary restrictions
Direct cost-effective purchasing activities of supplies and equipment
Coordinate fire safety alarms and equipment, as well as develop evacuation drills and protocols
Initiate planned maintenance programs of facility equipment, including HVAC
Coordinate the rental and use of the facility by the external community
Assist with student drop off and pick up activities
Serve as staff support for the Facilities Committee of the Board of Trustees
Perform all other duties as assigned by the CFO
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in related area a plus
At least 10 years professional experience managing business operations as a Director of Facilities
Strong supervisory skills, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to work effectively with a wide variety of people including: faculty, staff, administration, contractors, vendors, and architects
Knowledge of building codes and compliance regulations and familiarity with all current health and safety regulations including OSHA
Demonstrated expertise in problem resolution
Detail-oriented and highly effective organizational skills
The ability to work well under deadlines and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements
Computer proficiency, with special emphasis in all MS Office applications
Flexible schedule to work nights and weekends when required
