Montgomery County Recreation is nationally recognized agency who is seeking a dynamic and motivated career employee who can help to support the operations of our award-winning aquatics team. This is a management/ supervisory position which has full responsibility for area-wide aquatic operations to include one of the County's regional indoor swim centers and outdoor pools.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and management of career and part-time seasonal staff; life protection and safety management; facility management; budget development; revenue management; programming and evaluation; marketing, recruiting, hiring and training of part-time seasonal staff such as coaches, lifeguards, instructors, and cashiers, etc.
Examples of duties include:
- Scheduling and supervising the staff;
- Supervising the maintenance of the facility and all specialized equipment to include water treatment and filtration equipment;
- Scheduling of technical maintenance work;
- Monitoring collection of all revenues, admissions, pass sales, lesson and swim team fees etc.;
- Overseeing preparation of daily cash balance reports and depositing income;
- Ordering all swimming pool chemicals and other supplies;
- Handling public inquiries, suggestions and concerns.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate broad individual responsibility executing staff supervision, general facility cleanliness, care, and grounds cleaning.
The Recreation Supervisor is a key member of the Departments leadership team and will be responsible for supervising and maintaining the stability of a large staff by modeling desired behaviors through consistent and positive work ethic; by providing direction and guidance to employees through clear articulation of schedules, projects, activities, goals and related services; and by advocating on behalf of the management team. The Recreation Supervisor will be required to demonstrate professional courtesy to community members, recreation staff and others who may be encountered in the field. The successful candidate will have experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work towards improving one's own cultural competence and the cultural competence of staff (i.e., valuing differences/ diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's expertise and having the desire to learn in these areas.)
This position will be supervised by the Aquatics Manager and/or Aquatics Program Supervisor and stationed at a County-operated aquatic facility. Scheduling for this position will vary based on the operating schedule of the facilities. This position requires early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional work hours. This work involves physical demands, frequently working outdoors in varying weather and extreme temperatures. This work may require the use/wear of personal protective equipment. This position requires the ability to frequently attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office and/or facility.
The successful candidate should have knowledge of Montgomery County Health and Safety codes regarding aquatic facilities; chemical and technical aspects of swimming pools to include filter systems, hazardous materials and pool chemistry, chemical delivery systems and HVAC systems; aquatic industry standards for safety and program development; and the knowledge and willingness to obtain Lifeguard Training Instructor Certification.

Experience: Four (4) years of related professional experience in the recreational field.
Education: Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
LICENSE:
- For positions assigned to Aquatics, possession of a Montgomery County Pool Operators License.
- Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job related duties.
