HOUSING (IA-HDEP-IUINA)

The Office of Housing and Residence Life , within the Division of Student Affairs , provides housing for 2,400 residents offering students an on-campus urban living experience. We create living environments designed to foster educational success and personal growth through social and academic programs, events, and numerous leadership opportunities. On-campus housing communities create a sense of belonging and fellowship that comes with living on-campus among a community of peers. Housing and Residence Life also serves a wide range of campus and community partners through summer conferences and guest housing that directly impact employer recruitment efforts across the city and support engagement and college prep efforts to support student success and recruitment.

• Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on campus buildings, facilities, equipment or machinery.
• Assembles, installs and/or repairs: wiring, electrical and electronic components, plumbing/pipe systems, physical structures, fixtures, paint, HVAC systems, locks/access systems, compressors, generators, engines, etc.
• Diagnoses problems and determines corrective solutions, referring to and/or adhering to building codes, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
• Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassembles equipment.
• May lead other maintenance staff on projects or assist in a general maintenance capacity when others are in a lead role.
• Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment advising supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary. Works during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.

EDUCATION

Required

• High school diploma or GED.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• Certificate in DOL apprenticed trade (electrical/plumbing/HVAC/carpentry).
• 5 years Verifiable journey-level experience.

Preferred

• Licensed plumber.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

Preferred

• Acquire and maintain a material-specific abatement certification, supervisor certification or other required certifications.

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
