Job Description:
The Range and Lab Services Specialist administers the operation of the law enforcement range and lab facilities and manages range and lab safety policies and procedures to ensure the safe, effective and compliant operations of all indoor range complex and lab areas to include activities and resources both environmental and operational. The Range and Lab Services Specialist works directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and fully supports the College's commitment to equity and inclusion.
Specific Job Duties:
- Ensure safe, effective and compliant operations over ranges and lab operations.
- Act as or supervise functions of approved Range Safety Officer(s) (RSOs) maintaining all compliance and use tracking to ensure effective operations. This is to include but not limited to timely routine managerial reporting and other activities.
- Supply students and instructors so that they are properly outfitted by receiving, storing and issuing training equipment, supplies, accessories and other training supplies.
- Recommend purchases of new equipment and supplies to as needed to meet student, staff, and faculty needs.
- Manage the cleanliness of training equipment storerooms, training labs, classrooms, and adjacent areas by requesting custodial assistance or performing simple housekeeping tasks such as sweeping and dusting.
- Ensure the effective environmental operations and routine collection and review of environmental data points, and control over the law enforcement range facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
- Two years of professional law enforcement experience with the ability to demonstrate competencies sufficient to maintain a safe range environment
- Armorer in one or more of the following weapons systems – Glock Pistols, Remington 870 Shotgun, and/or the M-4 Rifle platform.
- Sufficient knowledge to demonstrate safe firearms and ammunition administration.
- Sufficient knowledge and ability to write and administer effective budgets, inventory control and operating procedures and policies.
- Knowledge of stockroom operations in receiving, caring for and issuing supplies and in keeping records and maintaining inventories.
- Knowledge of nomenclature, construction, maintenance and repair of training equipment.
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures sufficient to write specifications and bids.
- Knowledge of computers and software sufficient to enter data, do inquires, and produce reports.
- Ability to lift and move 75 pounds.
- Ability to move effectively within a flat multi-story roof tops and associated HVAC structures to bend, stoop and kneel without significant accommodations.
- Ability to use washers, dryers, electric drills and other hand and machine tools requiring manual and finger dexterity.
- Ability to work independently, assume responsibility, exercise initiative in area of assignment, and meet deadlines
- Human relations skills sufficient to interact with others (common courtesy, tact, interest in problem solving, empathy and logical organization of ideas), maintain effective working relationships with on campus and off campus partners and give technical advice and work instructions in a positive manner.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Certified Firearms Instructor
- Experience working in a Higher Educational setting
- Experience with or knowledge of administering HVAC systems
- Experience with or knowledge of administering lead abatement systems and/or procedures.
- The ability to maintain or obtain additional certifications as requested that support the equipment maintenance such as Armorer for identified equipment.
- Working knowledge of law enforcement radios and marked training vehicles.
- Two Years of indoor live fire range management experience
