Maret School is seeking a seasoned Director of Facilities to oversee its Facilities Department. The Director reports to the Assistant Head for Finance & Operations and will lead a team of six that includes a Building Engineer, Transportation Manager, Day Porter, and several members of the team with specialized skills that include electrical, plumbing, drywall, and painting. Strong organizational, communication, managerial, and collaboration skills are a must. The Director must be a team player and a hands-on leader, but also capable of appropriate delegation, moving seamlessly between strategy and execution. The Director’s areas of responsibility include:
Asset and Resource Stewardship
Develop and manage the annual repair and maintenance budget and multi-year budgets for capital replacement needs
Purchase facilities equipment and supplies using feedback from the Facilities team
Manage and measure utility consumption and contracts and proactively identify opportunities for reducing usage
Organize and maintain the School’s physical plans/drawings, records, manuals, etc.
Facilities Staff Management
Lead, teach, encourage, and manage members of the Facilities staff
Advocate for Facilities staff members within the faculty and broader community
Continually review Facilities staff roles and responsibilities to maximize efficiency and provide regular feedback
Create staff work schedules and hours and approve payroll timesheets
Build skill and task redundancy within the Facilities team
Physical Plant and Project Management
Oversee the assignment of maintenance tickets
Solicit competitive bids for projects as appropriate, using existing vendors and leveraging the School’s list of small, women-owned, and minority-owned businesses
Oversee and interface with ongoing and ad-hoc vendors on campus, including housekeeping, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, and security
Manage the School’s off-site athletic facility
Manage and oversee capital improvement projects
Campus Safety and Security Leader
Support the School’s Safety Drill Coordinator during safety drills and ensure all life safety systems are in proper working order (sprinkler, fire, public address, etc.)
Continually assess and improve the School’s safety and security procedures
Oversee regulatory compliance with environmental, asbestos, and health standards
Manage the School’s access control and security camera systems
Transportation and Events
Oversee the School’s transportation efforts related to field trips, daily sports practices and competitions, AM/PM car lines, and shuttles to/from the Metro station
Meet regularly with the Operations Coordinator to review the School’s event schedule and oversee the completion of event set-ups
An ideal candidate will have the following qualities:
Experience in a supervisory role, preferably in facilities or property management
Deep experience with facilities operations and capital project planning
Demonstrated success working with and managing MEP and construction trades
Technology literate, including BAS and access control systems
Organized and able to multi-task effectively with attention to detail
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertinent to facilities administration
Expected Qualifications/Skills and Physical/Mental Requirements:
Ability to effectively read, write, and otherwise communicate in English
Capable of bending, stretching, reaching, lifting and/or standing for extended periods and the ability to carry, lift, or drag heavy items (up to 50 pounds)
Sensory requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to hear voices, alarms, bells, and horns
Computer experience with Gmail, MS Office, Internet, and other electronic media
Possess a valid driver’s license
Ability to pass a background check prior to hiring
