As a Plumber, you will assist with maintaining, installing, repairing, and replacing the University's plumbing and hydronic systems, which includes domestic, waste, and hydronic water systems and equipment. Additionally, this position will assist trade-based or license technicians and ensure compliance with regulations and codes. Urgent situations occasionally require after-hours work, and Structural Technicians are assigned to rotating on-call schedule.
Dependent upon a candidate's qualifications, a level 1, 2, 3, or 4 will be assigned. Higher levels work more independently and may also be responsible for more complex duties such as generating activity notifications, use schematics, blueprint drawings, trade tools, and applicable systems, communicating and coordinating with outside vendors and manufacturers, utilizing an EMCS, acquiring and performing estimates, and training, mentoring, and verifying work of others.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
High school or equivalent experience. No experience necessary for level 1. Able to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions. Thinking and reasoning skills.Good communication skills. Thoroughness and attention to detail. Good time management and organizational skills. Familiar with and able to operate tools and machinery. Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to work from a ladder and/or aerial equipment.Available by cell phone to assist with campus emergencies. Available for regular rotations on the weekend and after-hours on-call schedule. Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirement.
Associates degree in relative building trade, participation or completion of a relative apprenticeship program, and/or equivalent experience. Plumber/Pipefitter levels 2, 3, and 4 have additional minimum and/or preferred experience that include: 6+ months experience replacing bearing and seals on centrifugal pumps. 2+ years experience with general plumbing and maintenance or demonstrate equivalency.2+ years experience installing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems. 5+ years experience installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical piping systems or demonstrate equivalency.2+ years experience with domestic and pure water systems, hydronic heating and chilled water-cooling systems, compressed air, electronic and pneumatic controls, natural gas, steam, and condensate including all types of piping materials.4+ years of experience in plumbing and hydronic systems or demonstrate equivalency.1+ year experience brazing copper line joints to withstand high temperatures and pressure conditions.6 months – 1+ years experience brazing copper line joints to withstand high temperatures and pressure conditions.
Plumber/Pipefitter levels 2, 3 and 4 have additional minimum and/or preferred KSAs that include: Analytical thinking skills. Proficient in general maintenance and repair of plumbing.Ability to comprehend and follow complex and technical information. Strong documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Understanding of building and construction. Knowledge and experience using a variety of tools and machinery. Basic computer skills. Proficient using an EMCS for building preventative maintenance. Proficient using an CMMS. Skilled in brazing copper line joints. Skilled in welding carbon steel or black iron piping. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Knowledgeable of and skilled in the processes, procedures, and codes required of the trade. City of Lincoln Plumbing Journeyman License. Grade 6 Operator License are preferred.
