The hours are Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Under the supervision of the Auxiliary Maintenance Foreman, the Building Maintenance Technician helps other members of the Building Maintenance team to complete small, projects on campus with a high level of quality and workmanship. The Building Maintenance Technician assists with electrical and plumbing work and provides customer service to the campus community.
The ideal candidate demonstrates basic knowledge of building automation systems and field components and of the materials, tools, methods and techniques of the plumbing/electrical trad and and knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of plumbing and electrical trade; the ability to proactively recognize problems and determine proper repair solutions and corrective courses of action, the ability to understand and follow written instructions and communicate effectively; and the ability to utilize an electronic work order system.
Responsibilities include:
Perform minor bathroom and kitchen repairs to cabinets, fixtures, countertops, and partitions
Read thermometers and gauges, and record readings to track equipment efficiency
Lubricate equipment and repair or replace parts as necessary
Change air filters
Replace faulty switches, sockets, ballasts, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems and appliances
Repair or replace damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, faucets, flushometers, toilets, showers and bathtubs and/or connects them to outlet and inlet pipes
Open clogged drains with plumber's snake or vacuum plunger
Determine proper materials for specific applications and requirements
Assemble and disassemble scaffolding
Haul and erect ladders
Perform related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities
Valid driver's License
Ability to lift 80lbs
Ability to work at heights from scaffolding and ladders
Ability to work from scissor lifts, bucket truck and man lifts, interior and exterior
Able to climb, balance, stoop and crouch for lengthy periods of time
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved
Ability to use and maintain the tools and equipment of the trades involved
Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to operate and/or utilize basic lawn care and snow removal equipment
Ability to lift and move heavy objects and to work under adverse weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
Residential maintenance experience
Customer service experience

As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons. The ability to work overtime when needed is also required.
