The Russ College of Engineering & Technology's Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Ohio University invites applications for the position of Laboratory Coordinator. The Laboratory Coordinator will 1. Design, build and maintain undergraduate instructional lab experiments and facilities and graduate research experiments in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department, including necessary purchasing, fabricating specialty parts and writing data acquisition software programs. 2. Instruct undergraduate students in the proper operation of experimental lab equipment. 3. Serve as the departmental safety coordinator, ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed, including regular inspection of safety equipment. Observe and enforce safe student practices in all departmental laboratories. 4. Audit and dispose of department inventory assets for all departmental locations according to university policy. Specific responsibilities will include: 1 a. Maintain undergraduate laboratories to ensure that equipment functions correctly and to ensure overall student safety; b. Design, build, calibrate instructional lab experiments, including writing data acquisition software programs in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department; c. Directly interact with students/faculty on operation of instructional lab equipment; d. Apply knowledge of equipment troubleshooting/wiring, plumbing, machining, data acquisition programs, etc. to help undergraduate and graduate students design, specify, and assemble specialty equipment for research and for engineering design competitions; e. Reads and stays up to date on current technology for engineering equipment upgrades. 2. a. Serve as the departmental Safety Coordinator; and assist with Russ College of Engineering & Technology Safety Committee; b. Ensures safety procedures are implemented and followed, including regular inspection of safety equipment; c. Update SDS and other safety-related documentation in instructional labs; d. Monitor safe student practices in labs. 3. a. Provide additional technical services on an as-needed basis for departmental centers and institutes (time direct charged); b. Performs departmental and research center computer software updates and repairs; c. Assists on interdepartmental equipment repairs. d. Advises planning and leads implementation of changes for more effective and safe use of instructional and research space; e. Liaises with Facilities Management for maintenance and specialty projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree or vocational or technical degree in Chemistry, Engineering Technology or related field, At least three years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Engineering Technology or related field.
