Job Description This position reports directly to the NEIDL Engineering Operations Manager, and will provide technical assistance and support to sustain and coordinate ongoing maintenance programs and activities associated with day-to-day facility operations of the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (NEIDL).
Responsibilities include:
Supporting the Engineering Operations Manager in the safe and efficient operation of the NEIDL facility to sustain an uninterrupted research initiative. Assist with the daily management of operations and maintenance programs as carried out by contracted services or in-house personnel.
Providing hands-on coordination and delegation of repair and maintenance activities. Will work with the Engineering Operations Manager to enhance the Computerized Maintenance Management System and develop methodologies to improve the work flow process. Working with the Engineering Operations Manager, will develop KPI reports to provide to Senior Management.
Assisting with setting priorities and responsible for capturing data in formats useful for assessment of budget, labor, and overall project costs. Assists with coordination of certifications and facilities required permitting. Evaluates preventative maintenance strategies under guidance and consultation with the Engineering Operations Manager.
Hands-on supervision of Custodial Staff and Contractors with responsibility for improving overall building appearance. Responsible for working with staff to develop a concise action plan, along with cleaning SOPS to improve building custodial services. Requires a strong attention to detail.
Initiates scope development and requirements for project bid specifications to incorporate standards and engineering principles for equipment installations and building infrastructure and performance. Assists the Engineering Operations Manager in contract performance assessments.
Assists in projects involving sophisticated technologies as assigned and ensures that installation, implementation and commissioning processes are included and followed. Reviews technical specifications and communicates application to NEIDL standards and/or policies.
Participates in communication and coordination of the facilities group activities to disseminate information within the Facilities leadership regarding status of projects. Acts as liaison to other University organizations external to the NEIDL to help ensure appropriate integration and information sharing.
Assists the Engineering Operations Manager and Core Director in the review and/or development of operational protocols, procedures and process for workflow and administrative management.
Attends meetings at the direction of the Engineering Operations Manager; training sessions, conferences, site visits, etc. as assigned. Provides briefings, educational sessions, and/or training programs to internal staff as appropriate.
Required Skills Must possess an Associates Degree in an Engineering Technology field; Bachelors degree in engineering is preferred. Must have minimal 2 years of proven operations engineering experience in a safety conscience, high paced, protocol driven, and mechanical intensive infrastructure environment. Knowledge of HVAC systems. Strong oral and written communication skills required to manage the flow of information in support of decision making, and in addition, analytical capabilities to support the NEIDLs safe and efficient operations. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast paced environment of competing priorities.
Must be willing to participate in the NEIDL BSL-3 and BSL-4 training programs and other NEIDL specific training and must be willing to travel for professional development
Must successfully complete all background checks / security clearances as deemed necessary by BU or governmental agencies with regulatory oversight of projects.
