Specific knowledge to interpret data requiring advance skills in refrigeration and heating. Under general supervision, with access to supervisor and/or coworkers as needed, performs a variety of duties including the installation, servicing, modifying, rebuilding and repairing of all college refrigeration/air-conditioning and heating systems in accordance with established practices and procedures.
Repair, install, modify, and rebuild all H.V.A.C. and refrigeration systems and equipment:
Work completed according to standard practices and procedures and in a safe manner with agreed upon schedules; all codes followed in accordance with Department of Public Safety; all safety rules, practices, and procedures followed.
Monitor and test for leaks and adjust controls on all H.V.A.C. systems.
Prevent shutdown of H.V.A.C. and refrigeration systems from lack of oil and gas.
Chemical water treatment procedures performed according to agreed schedule.
Cleaning of all strainers to pump and cooling towers; prevent blockage and shutdown of the system.
Must be able to read and interpret blue prints and manuals
Inspection of shafts, sheaves bearing, motors and pumps.
Grease and oil all motor and bearings to prevent the failure of shafts, sheaves, and belts.
Report all unsafe situations, unsafe equipment and material to your supervisor immediately.
On call on weekends when required.
Work overtime as needed which may include overnights, weekends, and or events.
When emergencies and/or extreme weather conditions occur, the functions of this position may be deemed essential, and employees must report to work and/or remain on duty
Wearing of uniforms (shirts, jackets); must be neat with clean-cut appearance.
Safety shoes required (College provides an annual stipend).
Safety glasses and equipment as required
Moderate physical demand. Handle mixture of weights from 5 pounds to as heavy as 200 pounds with assistance.
Use of various hand and power tools.
Assist outside contractors as needed
Use Energy Management System to operate and troubleshoot systems.
Perform preventive maintenance as required.
Utilize FAMIS, our work order management system.
Must have valid driver's license.
Exposed to dirt, noise, weather and extreme temperatures.
Continuous intellectual and visual attention is required where work activities require constant alertness and activity. Job requires various positions as sitting, standing, walking from job to job. Interaction with College personnel/students
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma; certificate and/or license basic electrical knowledge.
A Massachusetts Refrigeration License and a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Refrigeration recovery certificate
Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
