Job Summary: CONNECTICUT COLLEGE is conducting a regional search for a highly skilled HVAC Mechanic to operate, maintain, and repair kitchen equipment, and building heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems throughout campus. General Duties & Responsibilities: The HVAC Mechanic will be required to operate, maintain and repair sophisticated HVAC, refrigeration equipment and swimming pool equipment; adjust, maintain and repair electrical, mechanical and pneumatic controls (120 volts and below) and maintain and repair kitchen equipment. The HVAC Mechanic will also perform preventative maintenance including inspecting equipment, inventorying equipment and working from manufacturer specifications and must have excellent troubleshooting skills, may perform repairs or replacement to compressors, motors, condensers, fans, thermostat, ducts, piping and other mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment and/or systems. The HVAC Mechanic will also be required to maintain various electronic records related to HVAC work, labor, materials and work orders; maintain electronic inventory of equipment; respond to emergencies and function as a member of the Facilities Management callback team; carry the duty phone and be on-call when needed. and works overtime as required and assigned. The HVAC Mechanic will Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures; operate a variety of equipment, machines and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition and estimate cost of labor and materials for work orders. S/he will also confer with members of the College community to resolve problems; operate a service vehicle as required to perform duties and must be available for other urgent/emergency duties. Qualifications: A valid State of Connecticut S-1 License is required. Five years of experience as a licensed HVAC with a S-1 license in a multi-building work environment is preferred. A combination of education, experience, licensing and demonstrated knowledge of skilled HVAC work will be considered. HVAC Mechanic must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and tools necessary to perform HVAC functions. The HVAC Mechanic must have the ability to estimate labor and material costs, keep simple records and reports, follow oral and written directions and read and write English as well as have the ability to read drawings and operations and maintenance manuals. The HVAC Mechanic must be able to work independently with little direction and be well organized, and able to work under pressure. The HVAC mechanic must have the ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the College community. The HVAC Mechanic must possess knowledge of OSHA and other safety/health requirements; have and maintain a certificate to reclaim all refrigerant; have ability to see colors and be able to work at moderate heights and lift heavy objects, up to 75 lbs.
