This position will be responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of HVAC equipment and controls. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor or other Manager, the HVAC Mechanic “A” will lead the daily operation of the HVAC shop at the College.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Operates, maintains, and repairs water and oil pumps, water analysis and chemical treatment systems, air compressors, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical controls, refrigeration, heating, cooling and ventilating equipment, filters, condensers, cooling towers, evaporators, and heat exchangers
Responds to HVAC system complaints, performs troubleshooting of systems and provides feedback to College community on progress
Installs electric power, piping, controls and duct work to replace, maintain or to install new equipment.
Maintains logs and prepares written reports to Supervisor, as appropriate
Monitor and oversee College and contractor staff, as needed
Attends training sessions and meetings to stay current on all trade, College, and regulatory requirements
Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of department spaces
Prepares list of materials required to maintain inventory and complete projects
Must respond to emergencies and maintenance tasks, as required, which may include working off-hours or holidays
Reports to the College during closures and assists with snow and ice clearing operations, as needed
Performs any other duties or task as may be assigned
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Annual Salary ranges from $57,500-$72,500.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Vocational School education or an appropriate apprenticeship preferred. Completion of a Journeyman level training program in HVAC/R or associate’s degree in HVAC/R
Experience:
Minimum of Six years’ experience maintaining and repairing sophisticated air conditioning systems including electric/pneumatic controls, high capacity centrifugal refrigeration equipment and roof top units.
Must be EPA Certified Universal Technician in accordance with Section 608 to handle CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs
Must have NJ Blue Seal Refrigeration
Must have or obtain a Certified Pool Operator certificate within 6 months of hire
Must have a valid Driver’s License
Experience working in a diverse team setting

Physical expectations for this position are:
Prolonged periods walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling on uneven surfaces
Physically able to operate powered equipment and tools
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
Able to work in unconditioned, noisy, dimly light, confined, and odorous spaces, including the ability to work in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, storms, heat, cold, and other weather indigenous to the area
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for prolonged periods of time
Must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights for extended periods of time
