Job Overview
The Plumbing Shop Foreperson is responsible for overseeing and participating in construction, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all plumbing and related systems serving GU's main campus and off campus properties, as well as for planning, assigning and scheduling work to plumbing shop members. Duties include but are not limited to:
Oversee and participate in plumbing and related work; train new employees, and encourage and build up all team members
Provide input to the Supervisor on employee performance and conduct; and perform other duties as assigned that relate to departmental operations
Understand and follow industry safety standards, employing a good general knowledge of all building systems.
Assign, review and close work orders in Maintenance Connection and create JIRA tickets for material and contract work
Work closely with the shop supervisor to create scope of work and implement smart budget practices
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Plumbing Shop Supervisor, the Plumbing Shop Foreperson provides oversight and direction of plumbing shop mechanics, and interacts with Georgetown University's faculty, staff, and students on a regular basis.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency
DC, VA or MD Plumber License
At least 5 years of documented work experience in the plumbing field
At least 5 years of experience of leading a team of plumbing shop personnel
Ability to research and follow the current DC Plumbing Code
Knowledge and skill to troubleshoot and repair residential and commercial level plumbing systems, including steam fed heat exchangers and various pumping systems
Experience working with various vendors to research, identify and order parts and material
Ability to work with other trades and to direct and oversee contractor work
Ability to grow and improve the existing preventive maintenance program.
Proficiency with computers and capable of learning new programs such as Maintenance Connection and JIRA
Possession of a valid Driver's License
Willingness and availability to respond to emergencies during both the regular shift as well as off hours.
Essential Designation The Plumbing Shop Foreperson is designated as an essential position, requiring the incumbent to report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time, regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late, or closing early.
