Position Summary
SDSU Facilities Services is a customer service-based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university.
The Plumber performs the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work. The incumbent also may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. Responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel, and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, including automated plumbing systems.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber's apprenticeship program.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
Must possess a valid California Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
Specialized Skills Required
Ability to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems
Ability to work unsupervised on a variety of job tasks from simple to complex
Ability to perform strenuous physical work
Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations and recognize, secure and report unsafe conditions immediately
Preferred Qualifications
Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification
Experience working in higher education, military, or a large multi-building facility environment
Experience working in a union environment
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $6,148 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Classification Salary Range: $5,742 - $7,414 per month.
SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
