POSITION PURPOSE/JOB OBJECTIVE: Installs, troubleshoots and repairs plumbing equipment and distribution systems involving work of a varies nature with minimum supervision. Must have thorough knowledge of sanitary codes regarding installation of plumbing systems. Must have at least five years applicable experience.

ESSENTIAL & OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Relays information, assignments and schedules to others as directed by supervisor or manager
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair plumbing and mechanical equipment
Install, maintain and troubleshoot water, soil and drain piping in existing buildings
Make minor repairs and adjustments to various control systems both electric and pneumatic
Operate, maintain and repair all aspects of laboratory equipment directly connected to the various plumbing systems such as: water, air, gas, vacuum, drains, etc.
Keep records, write reports and identify plumbing materials
Obtain required permits when necessary
Work from blueprints, drawings, sketches and/or verbal instructions to plan, layout and install piping and fixtures
Make standard shop computations relating to pressure, flow and size of pipe required
Make standard tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications
Make major and minor repairs to pipelines within and leading to campus facilities
Make repairs on various types of pumps, valves and pressure regulators of various sizes
Shape, cut, ream, caulk, sweat, solder and thread a variety of pipe sizes and types and related fittings using various hand tools and power-driven machines
Open clogged drains with plunger or plumberâ™s snake
Must work on ladders, scaffolds, pits, and manholes
Read, write, understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English
Establish and maintain a positive cooperative working relationship with supervisors, fellow workers, department heads and other members of the campus community
Work in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and time deadlines
Must observe safety rules and regulations at all times
Manually life up to 60 pounds. Heavier material or equipment is lifted using other methods

Must be a high school or trade school graduate
Must possess a valid driverâ™s license and drive assigned University vehicle
Must possess a valid Massachusetts State Master and Journeymanâ™s Plumbing License
Must possess a valid Massachusetts State Certification as a Backflow Prevention Device Tester
Must be physically able to perform all of the essential duties of the position as set forth in this Position Description, including but not limited to the following:
Observe safety rules at all times

Work on ladders, scaffolds and rooftops, in bucket trucks, pits, manholes and other confined spaces
Work in an environment subject to frequent changing of priorities and time deadlines
