FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering 58 associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a tenure track position in the Department of Environmental Control Technology at the assistant professor level, to begin in fall 2023.
The Department of Environmental Control Technology houses the only HVACR technology and Facilities Management programs within the City University of New York and is the only college in the City of New York offering degrees in HVAC. The department offers an associate degree (AAS) in Environmental Control Technology and a bachelor???s degrees (BTech) in Facilities Management.
The position requires a commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly research resulting in publications, presentations and other significant creative works, sustained service to the department, college and university, and regular involvement, as assigned, in academic advisement, assessment and accreditation efforts, and self-governance. The successful candidate will function collaboratively in department level efforts, playing an active role in the creation, development, and assessment of department curricula and maintaining the academic vitality of the department.
The assistant professor will be expected to:
Teach courses in the diverse offerings of the Department of Environmental Control Technology curriculum including, but not limited to: principles of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration; design of HVAC piping and duct systems including graphic representation; controls; Building systems; engineering economics; energy analysis; Facilities operations
Engage in program development, recruitment, and student advisement.
Committee participation is expected, as well as other department, college, university and/or community projects.
Day, evening, and weekend curriculum and department duties may be required.
Continued professional growth and scholarly contributions to the field are expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A doctoral degree in Engineering or Architecture. A Master???s Degree in Engineering or Architecture and Professional License (P.E. or R.A.) may be accepted in lieu of a Ph.D. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 5 years of post-degree employment in the HVAC, Energy, or Facilities Management industry
A history of relevant experience in one of the following:
HVAC system design, installation, operation or repair
Building design, construction, and operation
Research in areas related to building energy use
College or university-level teaching experience is strongly preferred
VACCINE REQUIREMENT
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
COMPENSATION
$75,465 - $93,134

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
