Overview
Princeton Universityâ™s Office of Capital Projects (OCP), projects seeks experienced Construction Manager MEP Specialists to join our dynamic staff for newly created roles due to University's $5B capital building campaign.
The Construction Manager MEP Specialist will be responsible for the successful transition from design to construction in delivering the Universityâ™s capital projects in the $1M to $500M range. The Construction Manager MEP Specialist core strengths will be rooted in a depth of experience in the design coordination, constructability reviews, construction coordination, field installation, commissioning and delivery to operations staff of building MEP systems commensurate with highly complex research and laboratory projects.
The position requires strong experience in the overall construction delivery process, project controls and the ability to predict, communicate and manage the impacts of project risks. This position requires a proven ability to establishes and execute the necessary controls, processes and culture that meet the project delivery requirements regarding budget, schedule and quality. In simple terms, this position must bridge the gap between design and construction while being a well-informed liaison for campus students, faculty, staff and must nurture a professional, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities
In the Integrative Design Process phase, the Construction Manager MEP Specialist will be a contributing member of the University team by partnering with a Project Manager, other Construction Manager(s), the Universities Architects Office, the end user clients and a diverse team of project stakeholders.
Candidates that provide experience in all, or a subset of the following MEP responsibilities will be preferred.
Participate in the selection and oversight of construction management firms hired to contract large capital project. Employ past experience to aid and ensure that project teamâ™s workflows and communications can and will function correctly throughout the project.
Establish strong, technically detailed and daily communications focused on MEP commissioning and turnover with key engineers, subs and commissioning agents through all phases of project delivery.
Perform detailed review of design documents for conformance with University Standards Manual and other applicable requirements.
Advocate on behalf of operations and maintenance to identify areas of meaningful improvement to the University Design Standards Manual.
First hand oversight of new building electrical infrastructure/sub stations, emergency power systems, testing and energization.Experience with specialized laboratory/research systems including: clean rooms, specialized exhaust/smoke-evacuation, low-vibration/isolation labs, microscopy/spectroscopy/laser labs and vivarium.
Provide first-hand knowledge and support in design, delivery and commissioning of complex ABS control systems and energy management systems.
Assume role as primary MEP liaison with University operations and maintenance staff and their subject matter experts from design through turnover. This position must know what they want, shepherd their concerns through the design phase and ensure the project functions as intended.
Bring experience in the development and execution of robust QA/QC workflows on MEP systems, and act as a primary University representative in these efforts.
Develop MEP engineering options for problems and be capable of quantifying price and schedule impacts for each.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
A degree Engineering or Architecture.
Five to ten yearsâ™ experience in a responsible lead management position engaged in the full project life cycle management of construction or renovation projects. The majority of this experience must be associated with work on buildings similar in complexity and sensitivity to those found in an institutional research and/or laboratory environment.
Ability to interpret construction documents, and understanding of applicable construction codes and land use ordinances working knowledge of the principles of design, an overview of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
Be adept at implementing and expanding the use of construction management technology to facilitate effective communication, document archiving, scheduling and future facility management. Be fluent with a variety of web based PM management tools.
Effectively utilize CPM scheduling practices and be fluent in developing, analyzing and reporting on Primavera CPM schedules, in particular Primavera P6EPPM.
Strong technical proficiency with MS Office Suite.
Proficient in the use of web based project management software/tools.
First hand experiment reviewing BIM design models and participating directly in construction coordination BIM efforts.
Extensive experience working as a lead PM on large ground-up projects.
Experience as a lead superintendent on comparable projects is also strongly valued.
Experience working on institutional laboratory/ research science facilities.
Experience with diverse building programs and high end finishes common to projects ranging from lab/clean room, large civil /site utility work, historic renovations and academic/performance space.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional registration as an engineer is strongly recommended.
