The Building Mechanic II will maintain, repair, replace and perform new installations on building architectural, mechanical and utility systems; i.e., plumbing, HVAC, hardware, furniture, doors, fountain, fixtures, etc. In addition, assist Building Mechanic III with repairs regarding major mechanical systems of Nebraska Unions facilities. This position shares responsibility in monitoring the building energy management system.
The Building Mechanic II provides various levels of skills pertaining to planning, research and design relating to new and replacement maintenance projects, while maintaining compliance with current State and Federal codes and regulations including EPA, OSHA, plumbing, etc., will maintain records and reports, read schematics, construction prints and manuals as needed. Responsible for interior/exterior painting as needed. Operate snow removal equipment (to include tractor, snow blowers, shovels, etc.) as needed. Position requires working on a ladder; lifting up to 50 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.
Valid driver's license and eligibility to drive on UNL business required. This position is considered essential to our operation. Hours 12pm to 9pm, Monday- Friday, plus weekend on-call rotation, if and as required, by Facility Manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
High school or equivalent experience or equivalent education/experience is required. Four years of progressive building maintenance experience; equivalency considered. Must have a working maintenance knowledge in the areas of electrical systems, steam systems, and plumbing repair. Must be familiar with basic safety procedures and OSHA Guidelines. Ability to work on a ladder required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs. Understands and demonstrates the Nebraska Union's overall commitment to customer service. Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of how mechanical and architectural systems function, including the ability to read, understand, and interpret drawings, manuals and mechanical diagrams. Demonstrates the ability to perform journeyman level skills in one or more of the trades i.e. plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, etc. Demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to safety. Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree in a related field or apprenticeship program that includes theory and on the job work experience.
