Position SummarySDSU Facilities Services is a customer service-based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. The department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university.
The Building Service Engineer performs the full range of skilled building service engineer work inclusive of operating, maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing and repairing campus HVAC systems and equipment. Duties include testing, adjusting, and calibrating boiler, air-conditioning machinery, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and/or microprocessor control instruments. The Building Service Engineer will possess ability to efficiently test and chemically treat boiler, condenser, and cooling tower water and repair steam, natural gas, water, refrigerant, air and oil distribution systems. The incumbent is responsible for effectively repairing and replacing bearings, shafts, seals, rings, and electrical wiring, as well as installing central system parts, gauges, valves and pipes.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and ExperienceJourney level skills equivalent to that acquired through two years documented journe
y-level experience on the operation, maintenance and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and systems, or a combination of formal course in mechanical technology and hand-on experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:Must possess a valid California Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications - Prior experience, within three years, at a similar higher education environment, government or a large multi-building facility environment.
- Experience using a computerized maintenance management system.
- Completion of OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Safety Trainings.
- Five years of verifiable employment experience performing work in one or more of the following trades: Mechanical, HVAC, or closely related field; technical trade school certification may substitute for one year of work experience.
- Two years or more experience in servicing commercial BAS and DDC systems
Compensation and BenefitsSalary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Classification Salary Range: $ 5,742 - $6,098 per month.
SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine PolicyIn accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus.
Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward, a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated. The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
