Responsible for operating and maintaining a dual fuel steam plant with large electric centrifugal chillers. The incumbent will work on a rotating shift, maintain operations logs, monitor an energy management computer system and work closely with HVAC crew to identify and resolve utility problems. 1. Facility Operations *Starts and shuts down boilers; performs chemical analysis on operating boilers; monitors energy management graphics and disposition alarm settings *Inspects utility plant equipment, cooling towers and building mechanical rooms; starts and stops air compressors and air dryers; starts and shuts down centrifugal chillers *Trouble shoots operating difficulties and takes corrective action; responds to emergencies *Calibrates water quality analyzer and operates water softeners *Records readings of plant operating parameters in a legible manner; maintains computer log of plant operations and conditions *Cleans machinery and spaces; works with HVAC mechanics and technicians to perform assigned tasks
2. Repairs and maintains machinery and equipment *Monitors mechanical devices in operation to identify source of trouble *Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts *Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments *Lubricates and cleans parts; repairs and/or replaces defective parts *Starts devices to test performance *Performs preventive maintenance

This position is considered Essential Services Staff; Essential Services Staff are required to report to campus and remain during inclement weather and other emergency situations; they are defined as those needed to deliver student services and maintain campus facilities, campus safety and security
The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option. The employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community
Will often be required to walk, stand, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 25 pounds, work near moving mechanical parts, work near chemicals, in extreme non-weather heat and in areas with risk of electrical shock
Will sometimes need to lift up to 50 lbs
Will nearly continuously use hands and arms to reach, feel and handle objects
Will work a variable shift, rotating weekly day/middle/night as part of a 4 person crew for 24x7x365 coverage
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
Technical Degree or Trade Degree preferred
A Black Seal, High Pressure License is preferred
Three to five years related work experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Solid analytical and problem solving skills, ability to work independently
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
