Position Summary:
The Dean for the School of Applied Technology is a front-line leader of the College, a member of the Academic Leadership Team, and a member of the College management team. Academic leaders are the facilitating link among faculty members, staff, students, and the President's Cabinet and external constituencies. All activities and roles of the School Dean aim at furthering the best interests of M State students.
School Deans play four essential roles, serving as:
- academic leaders of their faculty, schools, divisions, and programs;
- representatives of their faculty, schools, divisions, and programs;
- representatives of College leadership to their colleges;
- managers of college resources.
The School Dean is responsible for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership in accordance with the Minnesota State Community and Technical College strategic and academic plans and for exercising holistic judgment when executing the duties of this position.
The position involves significant discretion and substantial involvement in the development, interpretation and implementation of Minnesota State and M State policies.
Responsibilities:
· Manage credit and hourly course/program offerings.
· Provide strategic instructional leadership for the college.
· Faculty/Staff Leadership/Management.
· General Administrative duties.
· Enforce and implement equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, procedures, and programs as appropriate to academic leadership.
· Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
· Master's Degree required, Doctorate preferred
(from regionally accredited college/university)
Physical requirements (e.g. lifting and carrying equipment and materials, required overnight travel):
· Occasional overnight travel is expected.
· Extended work hours.
· Frequent inter-campus travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications, Leadership Attributes and Experiences:
· Academic leadership in a community and/or technical college or university setting.
· Minimum of 3 years of experience at the academic dean or department chair level.
· Working knowledge of higher education policies, practices, and procedures.
· Experience in working with collective bargaining.
· Experience in fiscal planning and budgeting.
· Career, trade or technical program or industry experience.
· Demonstrated knowledge of teaching or training excellence.
· Ability to build authentic relationships with stakeholders.
· Demonstrated experience in building and developing high performing teams.
· Documented success in building partnerships and collaborative agreements.
· Demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
· Extensive communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate authentically and directly.
· Demonstrated passion for community and technical college student success.
